Someone out there >must know!! >--- >James Paul Manley >jpmanley@gmail.com hi All I use a workflow available via contextual menu to replace the cookie file in iCab with an edited version containing only my desired cookies. iCab must not be running, so I had to use an Applescript to quit it before proceeding (the beep was just for grins.) I'll describe my workflow in Automator 1) from the Library/Automator choose: "Run Applescript" and insert: tell application "Finder" if process "iCab" exists then beep quit application "iCab" end if end tell 2) from the Library/Automator choose: "Pause" Placed it there assuming iCab might need a second or so to complete its quit procedures. Am uncertain if it's needed. 3) from Library/Finder choose: "Get Specified Finder Items" select the saved cookies file 4) from Library/Finder choose: "Copy Finder Items" set this: To: iCab preferences Folder, and set to "Replacing existing Files" 5) from Library/Finder choose: "Launch Application" relaunch iCab Note: After 6 or seven attempts to get this to flow, I found step 4 had to be placed in the step 3 position while navigating to the proper folder or it would copy the Desktop Folder rather than my chosen Cookies file. After setting the destination Folder in this step I then inserted "Get Specified Finder Items" into the #3 position and all was well. Bug? I don't know. All i can say is it simply would not play the same if assembled the first time in its final order. Tips/hints, different approach? I have tried it for a couple of things and found it quite limited in what it can do. It doesn't do the things I need done, and I don't seem to need the things it does. When I first heard about automator, before Tiger came out, I was picturing something different. I was hoping for something that would record and save keystrokes, much like macros in MS Word. This would be useful. Or perhaps I'm missing something. Perhaps usefulness exists that I have not discovered. It apartently uses a language similar to Object C. I found this info on the Mac Dev site at Apple.com I am looking to make automator more useful for my purposes as I have also found that the canned routines are not all the useful. I keep records of grades etc on a Palm (I teach science in the UK) using documents to go. I have a script (?) to back up the Palm folder to my iDisk. Yeah, I know: "Use Backup!" but I didn't want to! Here it is: 1 Get specified servers (http://idisk.mac.com/_user_name_/Documents 2 Connect to servers (you need to enter your log-in and pass here - there's a check box to add it to your keychain) 3 Get specified Finder Items (the folder for my Palm dox goes here) 4 Copy Finder Items -> to the Desktop 5 Rename Finder Items (Add [current] date) 6 Move Finder Items (to iDisk dox folder) It seems to work ... but don't blame me if it all goes pear shaped! Sure! There hasn't been much discussion on this list but that sounds like a great topic to get things going. I'm trying to make a group mailer like this: New Mail message > Get specified Address book items > Group Mailer > Send Outgoing messages What happens is that Mail pops to the front asking for recipients (already loaded by the Workflow, supposedly). Any thoughts on why this happens? The work flow looks like it's "trying" to work.. nk On Oct 31, 2005, at 4:10 PM, Phillip Burk wrote: > On Oct 31, 2005, at 4:06 PM, net kat wrote: > >> ...to post with a workflow I'm having trouble getting to work >> properly? > > Sure!
