If you don't need 3D surfacing, there's also Graphite which used to be
known as Vellum. All the Ashlar products are a bit more expensive than
many of the apps listed in the previous note, but they're great programs
and exist for both Mac and PC if you're concerned about cross platform
use. Ashlar's CAD engine is also used in a product called Score! from
Dimensional Impressions, it's used mainly by people in the packaging
industry (my background).

I'm partial to Kandu's Cadmover, it's a great translator that can handle
any format I've ever thrown at it including many graphics formats. It
also exists for Mac and PC. <http://www.kandusoftware.com> and
comes in a "lite" version for those on a budget who don't need the full
list of formats.
