The agony of choice!

I have been informed by Father Christmas, that he is going to be 
un-seasonably generous this year, which is going to leave me with 
enough money for either an iPod or a CPU upgrade.  My problem is this:

I will have enough money for a 30 GB iPod but, I could stretch to a 
40GB - BUT do I really need more than a 20 GB?

OR

I do the decent thing by my cube and upgrade the CPU.  I should have 
enough for a decent single CPU upgrade and I'm leaning (thanks to this 
list) towards the Giga item as it can be fan-less.  What can I get for 
iPod money over in the U.S. ( as I have a friend who will be purchasing 
and shipping it to me ) and does anyone know the cheapest place to buy 
these fellas over there?

Finally, if anyone has any of the above, can the make a recommendation 
or otherwise, in particular, if you have both and can quantify one as 
being better value than the other?
