ipod xmas woes

Hi all,
Our latest pint sized addition to the apple family doesn't seem to want to
play ball with our Cube. The Cube is a vanilla G4 450 model running Panther
and it has the latest firmware revision. The first time we installed ipod
all went well, but having tried the thing again things have gone south.
The Cube no longer recognises the Ipod when it's plugged in, but it can tell
a firewire device is attached. We have an external firewire CDR and that
continues to work fine. Rebooting the Cube with the Ipod attached doesn't
help either - the ipod displays a search icon which presents a tick when the
search completes. Pressing the menu button sets the search in motion again
but no contact is made. What I can't fathom is why the initial connection
synched OK.
Has anyone else had trouble getting Ipod to work and does anyone have any
advice?
