Isn't a significant part of the markup resultant from the DMCA?

ie. because the device is able to create DVD's.

(Yet another example of bad govt. meddling in an area where they are 
ignorant)

I don't want to copy anything that's copyrighted but a DVD worth of 
backup would be HUGE.
