whaddya do when "Force Quit" doesn't?

i mean, i've tried it from the apple menu, the process view app (last), 
and from the shell.

kill 1455
kill -9 1455

nothing!  it's the process that won't die!!!!  (1455 is the pid of the 
app, which in this case is Graphic Converter).

argh!!!
