i had the same issue with mine. i've since upgraded to the hk soundsticks and i now have the opposite problem -- i need to keep the volume on the lowest 2-3 settings so i don't wake people up in the next room. by the way, the soundsticks sound much better than the original cube speakers -- i actually have a high range now.
