Heath, Thanks very much for the encouragement. I followed the directions
for iSight/iChat AV installation exactly as written by Apple. I'm sure
you are right -- by following those directions I've got corrupted data
on the HD. (e.g. this is a software problem, the Cube works great!)

At 56 yrs, I've been called "childish" previously. I'm being such a cry
baby now because I never had such a serious problem running my Cube
before. (I got it the first week they were for sale.) I thought "crash"
was a term used euphemistically for a software "issue". It is true -- I
heard nothing at all. There are a lot of other silent crashes listed
under "log" in my "Apple System Profiler". Even though the screen was
frozen, my Mac didn't feel a bit cold. I'm not the only one that had
this problem installing the iChat AV beta on MacOSX 10.2.8.

640 ram, os 10.2.8, happened right after I installed iChat av. I can't
get to a login screen. I can start up in open firmware, but not in
single user. Weird-any suggestions?

Can't get to the login screen in OS X 10/04/03 11:56 AM
After restart, the apple logo appears, but the rotating activity gadget
never does. Then a very small black rectangle appears with what may be
very tiny unreadable, multicolored text inside it. The login screen
never appears. Computer booted fine in 9.2.2 after starting up with
option pushed, started up and ran diskwarrior 3 from the DW CD … Finally
did an archive/install of OS X 10.2 and then let the system updater
update back to 10.2.8 for me.

I still think it would have been better for Apple to get the worms out
of iSight before marketing.
