[CUBE] OT -- Safari going limp on me

I also have a weird behavior with safari; any .dmg  file is now downloaded
as a so-called .dms file (you read correctly: .dms instead of .dmg); as a
result the file is not recognized and not automatically opened in disk image
utility; as a matter of fact I have to manually change the extension into
.dmg and everything goes right but it's a bit tedious; clearing the cache
and re-installing Safari just did not help (I did not try to throw away the
safari.plist file yet).
Of course this does not happen either with IE or Mozilla or Camino...
Any suggestion?
