Bruce,

I presume you have both OS9 and OSX installed under the same hdd partition and you're the administrator user, so... Try a search (command+f) for every classic preference file while running Mac OS X. Trash all the listed classic preference files. Log out/in and open System Preferences. Choose Classic environment pane and re-assing the 9 classic folder again.

Reinstall is somewhere I don't want to go.
I'm not comfortable with all the privileges and how to get around them, If
you could explain just a little more about how to do these ideas I would
appreciate it.
I not a tech type but can follow instructions.
