Yes, it needs a fan or you get a toasted DC-DC card (power control).  
The cube is very close to overheating death just at spec.  If you add a 
new HD it adds heat (usually) and a faster processor adds lots of heat.

No, you can do this yourself.  But it helps to watch the PL video and 
ask lots of questions till you feel ready.  You need to strip the cube 
down to bits and reconstitute it. No Problem - hehe.  A second computer 
is a godsent for questions during the process.

No cats, use compressed air to clean stuff, do it all immediately or 
cover it all with a clean rag.  Make your space as clean as possible.
