FWIW... Both problems with the iPod - The FireWire and Audio jack's touchy contacts - are most likely the result of "repetitive stress": The contacts have become intermittent due to repeated stress and torque on the sockets... Just replace them [Yes, yes: Easier said than done]... I have a 1st Generation 5GB iPod, and the audio jack is beginning to show the same symptoms due to MANY motorcycle rides in my jacket pocket... Eons ago I was a roadie: I've seen every conceivable brand of audio gear suffer this fate at one time or another... Oh... Yeah... Been gone for a while... I did get an Xserve and set it up as a client, but I can't give up my Cube! ;^)...
