[Cube] Any iChat users out there?

Yet another simple thing I can't figure out.  A friend and I are composing some music and he wants to set up a chat to work on some stuff.  I've never used iChat before (Back when I was an AOL droid, I used it all the time. I remember it being a brainless process).  He is an AOL user.  How do I get this thing to work?  I added my name, and I'm "available".  I added him to my "Buddy List", but that doesn't "do" anything.  I tried sending an "invitation", but that doesn't "do" anything either (No indication if he's available or not. No response from iChat of any kind).  I try to open up a chat with a person, but there is no way to get the info from the Buddy List to the invitation (Unless I'm missing something).  WTF?!

Oh. "Help" is useless, as always. ;^/
