Use Disk Utility to eject The first and simplest method, if you only want to unmount a single volume on the disk, is to use Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities. In Disk Utility, simply select the volume you want to unmount and click Eject. 2. Hold Down the mouse button at startup In some cases holding down a connected mouse button at startup will cause a misbehaving optical drive to eject its media. (Unfortunately, this method will not work if you are using a Bluetooth keyboard.). 3. Boot into Open Firmware and eject If you have a Mac that will not startup properly and has a stuck disc, try booting into Open Firmware by holding down Command, Option, O key and F key during startup. After booting into Open Firmware, type the command: eject-cd. 4. Enabling an Eject menu As a side note, you can enable another means of ejecting disks by opening the folder System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras and double-clicking the file Eject.menu. An eject icon will appear in the menubar that can be used to close and open selected optical drives. (If you no longer want the Eject menubar item, hold down the command key while clicking and dragging the icon out of the menubar space.). I recently obtained a used cube with a similar problem but I'm considering replacing the drive. I'm thinking of getting a superdrive for my mini and swapping out the drive from that into the cube. I realize that besides the for obvious difference that the mini drive is a laptop drive and that the ide interface is a little different (I've found an adaptor for this) I was wondering if any out there has done this and knows of any unforeseen problems. Any info is greatly appreciated. James. BTW: I find that lightly tapping the top of the cd as it first appears at the top of the drive sometimes causes the drive to pop the disk out. As others have pointed out, this is a common problem with older drives, including mine. What also helps is to stick a business card (or airline ticket, works great as it has rubber stripe on one side :)) in when it tries to eject and grab it with your fingers. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be a permanent solution. I solved the problem by buying a new dual layer DVD recorder and putting it in the external firewire case. Now my question is: Are there any cube compatible vid cards out there that offer dual DVI out? I know space is at a premium here, but there has to be a card. Even if it offers 1 DVI and 1 VGA(bleh)... Any help is appreciated. Cheers - Jason -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <02f901c7257e$11195b90$669b9b9b@inspiron> Hi all. I found a mac g4 cube sitting by the side of the road (in the trash). I have been out of the "mac loop" for 10-15 years (my last mac was a mac classic) but it looked so pathetic sitting there so I picked it up. When I got it home I plugged my usb keyboard and usb mouse in and my vga display. Then I touched the power button and the little bugger roared to life. Then it just sat there with a big gray apple on a white screen with a little swirling pinwheel thing. When I googled this, it said to reboot with command-v to get to the boot messages and it stops dead after it says: /etc/rc: line 283: 147 Hangup SystemStarter -gr ${VerboseFlag} ${SafeBoot} So, my question is what does this mean and how can I fix it? I don't have any disks or manuals, etc. Should I go out and buy OS X and reinstall? Is there something simple I can try first? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! You can boot from the install CD or DVD to access the System Profiler (from one of the menu items; I forget which one) to see if the Cube has enough RAM to install OS X. 128 MBs are required. Then do an install. You can also install any retail version of Mac OS 9.1 and up. Regards, Ron In a message dated 12/21/06 10:03:39 PM, kittstr@earthlink.net writes: > Hi all.?
