Heavy development type questions should be relegated to some of the other development based lists that have been created such as Apple's Dashboard-dev list. Not unless you felt that you couldn't live without Konfabulator. Personally, I think it has potential but it will take some creative geniuses to figure out some 'gotta have' gadgets to make it fly. It may in fact be completely different from what it is today. See for a company that has removed the most serious limitation that I was having with Gadgets. They put Gadgets on the same plane as other applications. I think this makes much more sense than having them on their own layer. And I'm going to bet that Apple might just agree and offer this as a user choice perhaps. As for the Tiger question, things like Spotlight are more valuable for most people. But the bottom line is that the cumulative benefit of all the ~200 improvements is what makes Tiger worthwhile. It is not the one or two supposed gotta haves but all the little things that make the Mac so great to use. -- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Robert Ameeti Joy is not in things, it is in us. - Jess Lair <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> From zoff at mac.com Wed May 4 06:56:43 2005 From: zoff at mac.com (John Azevedo) Date: Wed May 4 06:56:47 2005 Subject: [Dashboard] Anybody home? Unfortunately, Tiger broke it and they are scrambling to get a new version out. A new installation works fine until you restart, and then a new installation becomes necessary. If your computer lives on or near one desk and is never turned off or logged out, you can install and use this app now. Otherwise, wait a week or two. -- Jesus Christ was a Jew, and a Liberal. While its kind of dumb to have things download automatically (IMO, the whole Dashboard is not yet ready for prime time). But all the tech news sites are going nuts with "Apple's new OS has a security flaw!" - which is a completely stupid interpretation. Its one thing to have a silly feature, and quite another to have an insecure *operating system*. Even though the thing downloads itself, YOU still have to run it. The bottom line is that there's some risk involved in running downloaded software. Whether its a widget or something you get from Version Tracker. If you don't review the code, then you don't know what its doing. I think of it as similar to it being a new browser window set to a default homepage. In this case, choosing Weather from the bar produces a default window ready for user settings, a second iteration of Weather from the bar allows for a second city to be monitored once that instance has been set to the city of your choice ad infinitum till resources are depleted I presume. Closing individual widgets looses the user setting for that iteration and new ones present default settings. -- -- Thanks Fred C From aaffleck at gmail.com Tue May 10 12:39:58 2005 From: aaffleck at gmail.com (Andy J.
