Near as I can tell.  The driver written for USB only supports USB 1.0.  I
wonder if Apple will support USB 2.0.  I think perhaps not since USB 2.0
competes too hard with Firewire.  There-in lies the delima.  Now with OS X
there are projects out there in the unix kernel to give it support that way.
Unfortunately I don't know if there are any USB 2.0 drivers available for
classic.  Does anyone out there know if someone has written 2.0 drivers for
classic?
