Hello,

The Free PPP is OK to establish your dial-up connection. What is
needed is the driver for internal modem which is Express Fax/Modem II
1.5 from Apple. Once this driver is installed the fax/modem folder
will be created in the hard drive and "Express Modem box" in the
control panel. Turn the modem on and set the port to "internal modem"
in the "Express Modem" box. In the TCP/IP connect should be set to
Free PPP. In the "Modem Control" box connect to "internal modem" and
not to "printer/modem port" and choose GeoPort Express Modem from the
drop-down modem lists. In order to activate the internal modem, you
should make the printer/modem port occupied by turning on the apple
talk from the chooser. The OS 7.5 has no "Remote Access" connection
box but you can use the Free PPP (telephone icon located at the right
hand corner of the screen near the Finder) to connect. Sometimes the
Free PPP cannot recognize the GeoPort Express Modem and will shift to
"generic modem initialization" in an error message. Just click on
generic modem and the dial-up connection will be successful. Although
installing OS 8.1 will improve your networking access with the
OT/PPP, the memory requirement to run the OS will be much higher and
will slow down your PB 280c which has only 40MB maximum RAM. The
ideal OS for this kind of processor (68LC040) and RAM is OS 7.6.1.
and you can get peak performance from PB280c. This is very important,
you should be using a 68K compliant Internet browser and mail
program. Use Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 3.1. and Netscape
3. Version 4 of these browsers and mail programs is for PPC and not
for older MacOS of 68K processor.

>Port - EM updater 3.0 help/duty? Perhaps a higher OS like 8.1?
