2400 ? boots on plug in ? Why?

hi all
I am trying to figure why this 2400 boots up when you plug in the 
power adapter.

I had to do a Long Power Manager Reset , since it had been sitting 
DEAD for maybe years?
After a few resets and one solid green light in the latch .
It now starts, sleeps and shuts down fine.

THe battery was not recognized by the OS. menu bar icon shows the 
little red X over the battery.
so i have left it OUT.

When you plug it in the 2400 starts up without pressing the power 
key. You can shut down , then it stays shut down . Unplug it and plug 
it back in ... starts up by itself.

I have tried air blasts in the power key and repeated pressing to 
free it. No luck.

Before I take the key off I was wondering if i was missing anything.
IT is OS 8.1 so iI do not think there is a "wake after power failure 
option anywhere.

I reset the PRAM. .
maybe dead Pram battery?
OS 8.1, 80 mb ram, no battery, 1.3 gb HD
