Dear Gurus, I've a 2400/240/112/40GB running 7.6.1,8.6 and 9.1. It is cardbus enabled running a CBFW2 Ratoc firewire card. My main use for firewire has been transferring MP3's from my iMac DV 400 9.1. I make the MP3's from the iMac CD, put them on my 2400 and play them through the car stereo on long road trips. (Note: use a limiter). Recently my partner and I drove 26 1/2 hours non-stop to a sheepdog trial in South Dakota and the 40 or so CD's on the 2400 passed the time. But - the firewire works awkwardly and I'd like to start transferring some 800 vinyls to MP3. I'd buy an LaCie 160GB harddrive and there'll be lots of firewire interaction between the LaCie, my iMac and the 2400. Here's the problem(s). The ratoc extensios seem to drift. If I haven't been using firewire for a while, I must check "Disabled Extensions" and sure enough, that's where they'll be. Move them into the extensions folder and restart. Second: I'd prefer to use the firewire card in 8.6 but even after the Ratoc card shows up on the desktop, I can't pick up my iMac in target mode. What I must do, hence, is move extensions into the extensions folder, start with 9.1 and then insert the firewire card to connect with my iMac in target mode. It makes me want to scrap the whole idea - or buy a blue and white. Do I have a bad card? Has anybody else noticed drifting Ratoc extensions? Why won't my 8.6 pick up mp3's from my 9.1 iMac?
