Paul, One of my 2400s won't run on a battery either. Sidney Ho suggested it was probably just the contacts inside the case. I haven't opened it up, but it may be worth checking out, since both batteries exhibit the same condition. That said, I'd try a known good battery just to see what happens and/or try the batteries on another 2400. There is a slight possibility that if he was using both batteries regularly, recharging them each night, etc., that they both ended their charging cycle life at the same time.
