PowerMacs 2003 question

Hi guys,

I am thinking of upgrading from a slot-loading iMac to a PowerMac Mirrored
Drive Doors - the February 2003 1GHz model.

Two quick questions:

1) what's the score with the fan noise now? Apple's publicity claims that
the issue has been addressed and that noise is now minimal.

2) how does the PowerMac 1GHz compare with a 17-inch flat-panel iMac in
'real world' experience? What this question comes down to is, does it make
sense to go for the 1GHz, or does one sees a real difference only with the
dual 1.25GHz? - the computer will be used for web-design and lots of text
editing, so the ability to hook up two displays is a great bonus etc.
