Usually if you hold Option and drag it out of the menu it will 
disappear. Doesn't always work though. Another way would be, go into 
your home directory, open /Library/Preferences. Then, look for 
something that relates to that application. Like if I were looking for 
a "Symantec" bar I would look for com.symantec.plist. But where I used 
"Symantec" replace it with the App that you trashed.
