Eudora attachment problem

I am having a problem sending attachments attachments in Eudora. 
-just get a swinging pendulum and and eventually a message stating: 
'No response in 45 seconds. Shall I keep trying. When I cancel this, 
I get another message stating: "There has been an error transferring 
your mail. I said DATA and then the SMTP server said----' But there 
is no statement of what it said! suggestions?
