Hi there!

I got a huge problem on my:

G4 AGP 400MHz (gray/silver) Analogue Audio from 1999-2000

(This was the model that replaced the early model that had a G3 motherboard.
And made it comparable to its faster reatives in the G4 family)

the Altivec chip seems to be broke...
All altivec optimized programs seems to do a VERY bad work/result but not
those that are not optimized for altivec.

Is there a way to disable the altivec function? so programs/the G4 thinks
its a i.e. G3 processor???

The problem is that I bought this G4 brand new, and I have never had any
problems with it, but since now so many programs are optimized for the
Altivec (velocity engine) my computer was maybe bad allready when I bought
it for 1800$ in 1999, shit!
Apple says that the guarantuee period is over and I can repair it for almost
the same cost as buying the same G4 second hand (700$) or put in a Sonnet
Encore card that makes it to a 800MHz + 2Mb Cache. (900$)

But please guys! There have to be a way to get over with this!
Instead: is there a way to DISABLE the altivec function somehow???

yours
