Under OSX, you can configure Internet Sharing.  Go to the Systems
Preferences and select "Sharing", click on the "Internet" tab and set it up.
I understand it turns itself off when you shutdown the machine.

Another OSX solution which is free for non-commercial use:

For OS7.5+ from the same company, but not free.  You are allowed to download
it, but I don't know what limitations it has until you pay for it.
