Also found the following.....

If you are having troubles making a connection to AOL with PPPoE type
connection, be aware that AOL uses a proprietary form of PPPoE and it may
not work with industry standard PPPoE enabled products.....might be worth
verifying with AOL.

Check your router manual, you probably need to open the port associated with
AOL IM, I don't use AOL stuff for general priciples so I'm not sure what
port number they use, your router manual should be able to tell you.
