iMic, USB adapters and lost sound

I have an iMic and from time to time I loose sound completely including
the built-in. It's unpredictable but sometimes it occurs after using
iPhoto or several applications extensively. After restart iMic sound
comes back and the sound is normal. BTW, my sound with iMic on G4 AGP
450, 1GB RAM is much better than the built-in.
Do you have any idea what's causing the sound crash?
