Try unplugging everything from the box except monitor, keyboard and 
mouse then boot up.

If that doesn't work zap your pram.

Try running the fsck utility at boot up.

Install the update again over the one you just did.

Sometimes it takes a while to boot after an update the 1st time, ( not 
more that 5 mins. ) take a coffee break.
