You don't have to disconnect the speaker if you attach a set of externals. 
When you plug in the external speaker plug, it disables the internal speaker 
automatically.

I was considering that the INTERNAL speaker function was what was wanted, not 
just ANY speaker function.

Your suggestion is correct in its own way. Adding a set of external speakers 
can greatly enhance the serviceability and enjoyment the user experiences. 
Plus, a Subwoofer makes for great sound effects when it rumbles with the 
background sounds from Medal of Honor.
