I have used Prosoft Data Rescue with great results on a hard drive that
went bad.

It may work for you.
The demo is fully functional, although you can only rescue one file at a
time until you pay.
That will give you a chance to see if it will find your missing folders
though.
Don't forget to rescue to a separate drive/partition

So there I was, trying to burn a data DVD of some of my songs to listen 
to at work (Yeah, iTunes for Windows!) and to back up the few songs I 
have bought.

Long story short.. iTunes locked up.. the Finder Locked up, had to 
reboot (ben a LOOOONG time since that happened)


Drive lost the icon and only showed about 6 folders (3 GB instead of 
the 40 GB of AAC encoded files). Disk first aid gave a lot red errors 
(I forget what now.. too freaked out at the time.)

An good suggestions on what program I need to overnight that MAY 
recover this thing? It was over a month of encoding 600+ CDs, scanning 
in CD covers that I could not find, and customizing a LOT of the tag 
info.
