Airport Extreme Questions

A friend of mine who owns a titanium PowerBook ( a little over one year old)
wants to purchase an airport extreme base station for his home, however he
just found out that the only card that will fit in his titanium is not an
airport extreme card - but the older model "regular airport" card - which is
much slower than the extreme version.

Is this true - that he his limited to purchasing the slower version card -
the only one that will fit in the older titanium? Someone mentioned that
there's another available slot in the titanium that you can purchase a non -
Apple third-party card that goes as fast as airport extreme card ... does
anybody know if this is true and if so, the name of this card and where to
find it?
