Valerie-

A little googling turned up the following. Another disclaimer is due
here. The group policy editor is almost as dangerous to use as the
registry editor. If you feel uncomfortable doing the following, just
assign a password to your Windows and Mac accounts. Use at your own
risk.

To start the group policy editor on your Windows PC, click on
Start>Run, then type in "gpedit.msc" and click on OK. In the group
policy editor, open Windows Settings>Security Settings>Local Policies
and click on Security Options. On the right, double click on "Accounts:
Limit local account use of blank passwords..." and change it to
Disabled. Click on OK, close the group policy editor and then reboot.
Then try connecting from the Mac.

If you decide to try it, I hope it works for you.
