Sleep, Different Kinds

Hi -

What's the difference between the options in the Energy Saver panel?

 - Put computer to sleep when it is inactive for x minutes
 - Use separate time to put display to sleep
 - Put the hard disk to sleep when possible

When I use Retrospect for backup, should any of these be disabled?

Does the backup process stop if any of these kinds of sleep occur?

What other operations can occur under these various kinds of sleep?
Internet downloads? System maintenance procedures?
