Open the side panel. Ground yourself. Disconnect the power cord.
Now...
Look at the inside of the front cover where the CD and Zip drive are located.
You will see a pair of plastic tabs that are the same color as the front
bezel cover. Gently push these tabs inward to release the front bezel cover from
the latching pins.

Swing the bezel out and away from the case, taking extra care while removing
it from the front of the computer. There are two locater pins molded to the
other end of the bezel that can be broken if you try to pull the bezel straight
out.

Behind the front bezel, you will see two screws holding the sub-chassis in
place. Remove these screws. Pull the sub-chassis out through the opening in the
chassis, taking care to remove the power connections and the IDE ribbon from
the drives in the sub-chassis. Also, there is a CD sound cable that must be
disconnected from the back panel of the CD reader.

Once the sub-chassis is out of the computer, place it upside down on a table.
There are four screws holding the CD reader in the sub-chassis. Remove them.
Push the CD reader out of the sub-chassis.

To install the replacement DVD drive, reverse the above instructions. Verify
that the DVD drive is identified as the "Master" device before mounting it in
the sub-chassis to avoid identification conflict with any other device
connected to that IDE ribbon.

While inserting the sub-chassis, observe that there is a locater tab at the
rear bottom of the assembly nearest the open side panel. That tab fits into a
slot on the crossbrace and must be inserted in the slot for the sub-chassis to
fit into the chassis properly. Also, attach the IDE ribbon and power plugs
while inserting the sub-chassis. There is not enough room to put your hands
inside and insert the plugs after the sub-chassis is properly in place.

Good luck, you are on your way to becoming a Mac Tech.
