I am not familiar with the scanner.  I assume that you are using Mac 
OS X and that the scanner is USB-connected.  If so, try unplugging 
the scanner's USB connector and replugging after a few seconds.  If 
you have a lot of USB stuff plugged into a hub, try unplugging all 
the othe stuff just to see if somehow the hub might have become 
overloaded.
