[G4] Lexmark bullying VUESCAN

Recently installed one of those Lexmark printer / scan jobbies and VUESCAN does not see it connected via USB as a scanner, system profiler finds it but labels it printer and I can only use the Lexmark software for scanning (by comparision, quite limited); since I shelled out some $ for VUESCAN as well, my preference would be to use it again.  How can I get this to work, can I ??
