[G4] spinning ball

Sounds like a finder preferences problem...

Is only finder windows and folders causing trouble with the spinning  
ball/ cursor?

try moving this file to the trash...  com.apple.finder.plist

/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
