I think you need to reset your logic board.  I'm not sure how it works on the MDD models, but on the graphite G4s you take out the battery and press the PMU chip--it's the little round button close to the battery--hold it for about a second, no longer.  Replace the battery, wait about a minute before plugging it back in, then try the power button again.  While the battery is out, check the voltage.  It needs to have at least 3v left in it.  If it has less, change it.

I don't think the electrical service had anything to do with it.
