[G4] Ibook Ethernet Connection

Might be hardware.  Unplug your G4 desktop and use that cable in your iBook.  Use the Ethernet DHCP setting for TCP/IP on the iBook and see if you connect.  If you do it's either the switch port or the cable.  If you don't, it's your iBook's Ethernet port.
