[G4] optical drive failure

im curious how often these go out?my drive no long accepts cds into it so im 
making the assumption i need a new one.

3 questions:

best place to buy a new cd/dvd drive?

how difficult is it to install?

good time to also swap out my hard drive for a bigger one?
