[G4] installing OS9

I can't see why this would matter. I did find some references to  
people having problems with installing OS 9 when using Apple displays  
with (possibly defective) built-in USB, although they got a grey  
screen (a kernel panic) not a black screen like you've reported. I  
couldn't find anything that said that you have to have an Apple USB  
keyboard to do the install.
