Not necessarily. If resetting the PRAM fixes the problem, then the battery's
probably OK. Failing battery usually is indicated by the date/time reverting to
sometime in the past, 1970s or earlier (depending on the machine, IIRC). See

the battery in most G4 desktops. For other machines, go to
<http://search.info.apple.com/> and search for the appropriate DIY battery
replacement; e.g., G5 battery.
