[G4] Re: CPU upgrade?

Well I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new MacPro 3Ghz w/4gig of ram.
Everything I read about the CPU upgrade pointed to a new machine.  The
computer is the heart of my business so I decided not to take any chances.
I'm keeping the G4 for my wife's photography business so I will be staying
on the list. Thanks for the replies to my question.

Me too! I have a G4-450DP and I'd like to be able to use FCP at least for SD
video.
Thing is that most of the upgrades I've seen that look as though they have
the horsepower cost an arm and a leg! I could buy a perfectly respectable
brand new lap-top that would outrun even the upgraded system for a similar
price!
What sort of concerns me is whether the upgrade manufacturers will lose
interest once they've got the cream of the old machines sorted. I suspect
there will never be a mass market pricing to tempt out the common Joe to
keep his old Mac flying.
