If you want to bypass USB altogether, you can use this firewire

It's a bit pricey, but trust me, photography is my livelihood and I  
run about 40 gigs of RAW files a week through it, and it is fast and  
reliable. It will smoke a USB reader, and it is powered by and  
compatible with the FW port that's already on your DA.
