Not true, when she plugs it into my iTunes Library (Mac G4) no songs 
are deleted.
It's just the fact that if you plan to use your iPod with a WINTEL 
platform then it needs to initialized on the WINTEL box first, then it 
will be able to communicate with the Mac. platform.

I say this with the condition that her iPod is about 3 or 4 years old, 
things could have change since she got it for Christmas.
