[G4] DVD-R camcorder footage

Hi,
My daughter and her classmates shot a school project on a Sony 
camcorder which records to DVD-R (mini). I was asked to edit the 
project. However when I loaded the DVD in my G4 Sawtooth with 
Superdrive, the DVD-r was not recognised. I have Final Cut Pro2 and OS9 
as well as OSX 10.3.9 and imovie. But first, I have to import the 
footage into either one of these apps. Any ideas?
