So, it's locking up when in OS 9 because of a monitor resolution problem. I'm
running OS X and OS 9 on a ViewSonic 19" @ 1600x1200 75 Hz and don't see your
problem. Boot into OS X, launch Classic, open the Classic Monitors control
panel and reset it to 1280x960 at 60Hz. Then, try booting into OS 9.
