[G4] Browsers--Firefox, etc?

I've installed the latest Mac version of Firefox, yet I still get frequent 
occurances of the beach-ball followed by a request to abort a Flash script. 
How can I disable Flash within Firefox?

How safe is the latest version of Mac Internet Explorer? How do I get it?

What about Safari as compared to the above? Is it safer/faster or better?
