[G4] The definitive answer on hard drive limits?

Thank you everyone for your responses.

I'd like to be able to use the 500GB drives with both OS 9 and OS X.

The drives currently have data that I've been using with my current OS  
X install (Leopard).

I'm thinking that my best bet may be a controller card.
