[G4] Unable to transfer/copy files-Files name too long!

Files with complicated long titles will not transfer or copy. Would this
have to do perhaps with a drive (external) that had not been formatted
correctly or is it a problem with software! I am running a G4 400 with
OSX (10.4.11). Sometimes a error message appears basically stating
" that file name was too long ."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
